Golf Course Redesign and Practice Facilities

We believe that Carlton Oaks Country Club is a valuable community resource that is important to preserve.

Across the county, golf courses are closing. From Escondido Country Club and Riverwalk to Cottonwood Golf Course and Carmel Mountain Ranch, new developments are planned where lush fairways once were. We are proud to propose a project that preserves the golf course for the public’s benefit.

The redesigned golf course covers approximately 104 acres and will still provide 18 holes. The length of the golf course would be reduced from approximately 7,300 yards to 6,450 yards to make Carlton Oaks more competitive in today’s market.

In addition to updating and enhancing the user-experience for our guests and appealing to a wider range of golfers, the updated course incorporates water-wise design and landscaping. Under the current conditions, the golf course has a total of approximately 132 acres of turf irrigation with a 30-year-old block type irrigation system. The new course design would only have approximately 66 acres of turf irrigation (50 percent decrease) and would utilize a new modern irrigation system to maximize efficiency.

The new design would reshape the existing man-made ponds on the golf course and would move the existing maintenance facility out of the floodway. The existing drainage patterns and facilities would be updated within the golf course to improve the flow of drainage, which would reduce the amount of ponding that occurs on the site during rain events. In the past, this ponding would result in the course being closed for days to weeks.

The newly designed golf course would retain more than 15 acres of existing natural areas on the site, which would remain untouched throughout construction. The remaining out‐of‐play areas around the course would be planted with native plants, which would be selected to require little or no maintenance.

updated practice Facilities

In addition to the golf course updates, new practice facilities for chipping and putting are also included.
